Teaching support
In the summer of 2018, I participated in a voluntary teaching support programme in Wanyuan, a remote mountainous area located in Sichuan Province, China. The project aimed to provide educational support to under-resourced schools and to promote equal access to quality education for children in rural areas.
During the project, I worked with a team of university student volunteers to deliver English lessons and organise extracurricular activities for local primary and middle school students. My main responsibilities included preparing lesson plans, teaching basic English vocabulary and grammar, and encouraging students to speak English through games, songs, and interactive tasks. I also led cultural exchange activities that helped broaden students’ horizons and introduced them to life outside their hometown.
This experience not only deepened my understanding of educational inequality in rural China but also strengthened my sense of social responsibility as an aspiring educator. It taught me how to adapt my teaching to meet the needs of students with diverse learning backgrounds and limited resources, and it reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education.
